A Los Angeles native, Julie Hughes received her MFA from California State University Northridge in 2004, with an emphasis in painting and drawing. She has exhibited her work across the country, including a public art installation in the Los Angeles International Airport.

 

She currently lives and works in the Bay Area and is a full-time lecturer in drawing, painting, and design at De Anza College. Her teaching style emphasizes artistic discipline with a serious sense of play. Placing a premium on intellectual curiosity and collaboration, Julie encourages students to break out of comfort zones and develop life-long practices.
